The premise that Lions and Tigers could live undetected in Great Britain seems less likely than it occurring in the wilds of the Rocky Mountains, where I was raised. Is there truly enough open space left unattended for this to occur in the British Isles?

I think so. Look at the BEAST OF BODMIN MOOR. There are these moors and fields, these older bits of woodland tucked away in the British countryside that just might harbor creatures like that. I really wanted to tackle the mystery surrounding Alien Big Cats (hence the title – ABC) for my story, rather than try to explain it. Is it possible that some rich old Lord released his lion cubs into the wild one day? Yes. Is it possible that a circus owner falls on hard times and lets his tigers out on an empty field in the dead of night? Yes. Of course it is. And that’s the scary part.

The part your protagonist plays as a reporter rang true for me, do you have any sort of investigative reporting in your background?

None at all. I just find that I can get into a character’s head sometimes.

Your story “ABC” felt very real, as if you might have experienced something quite similar to it. What steps did you take to research this story?

I remember we went to stay in a caravan when I was a kid, and my Dad heard a noise outside. He went out with a torch and shone it on a wild cat. It was big, bushy, massive green eyes and ears that tapered off to a point like a Maine Coone. It hissed and ran off into the night. It was just a feral cat of some kind. Maybe escaped from a nearby farm. But I never forgot it. When I sat down to write ABC that memory kept surfacing. Eyes in the dark.

Are you primarily a short story writer or do you also write novels? Please elaborate.

I do both. My series, FAR FROM HOME, is released in serial form, each 80-100 pages long. This summer I’ll release the last installment, making it about 1000 pages long. It’s a way of writing a very big novel, and making money from it as you go. I don’t know why more writers aren’t giving it a try. I’ve just released number 4 in the series (4 of 12) and it shot into the top 100 of its category within 48 hours.

Do you write exclusively in the investigative reporting / mystery genre or do you frequent other wordsmith arenas?

I’m primarily scifi, adventure, but my short stories do sort of cover murder and the paranormal as well. I’m finishing up a crime novel at the moment, and at some point this year I’ll be delving into Fantasy. I’m trying to dip into different genres as much as possible. I don’t want to get pigeon-holed into one specific genre.

What are you working on now?

As I said, I am finishing up a crime novel at the moment. It’s called COOL SURF and that’ll be for a May release. I’m also writing FAR FROM HOME 5 & 6, and a Star Trek Fan Fiction called “…A Tall Ship” that I’ll be posting all over the internet at some point. And yeah I’m also ironing out a Fantasy series to write once Far From Home is finished later in the year. So I’ll keep myself busy!
